All About Bulbs: Webinar, Videos, and Articles

October is spring flowering bulb and garlic planting month. Usually I’d have planted everything by now in our zone 5 garden, but because of the warm, dry fall, I’m waiting a few more weeks until the cooler weather and rains come. Plus, I’m still waiting for some of my bulb orders to arrive! So now is the time to have a plan for planting. To help, I’m highlighting my webinar, Growing Bulbs, to give you options for planting spring flowering bulbs in your yard, garden or pots.

I also included three other videos with transcripts that I produced on Planting Spring Flowering Bulbs, Species Tulips, Planting Bulbs in a Pot and Protecting Your Bulbs from Rodents. Check out these videos and don’t forget about my Garlic Video and Article as well.
If you’re looking for some immediate answers to your gardening questions, check out my upcoming appearance on Vermont Public’s, Vermont Edition Show. Not only will I be on the radio, where you can call in with your questions, but for those in the area, you can also come to the studio and watch the live broadcast AND ask questions in-person. You’ll need a ticket, but it’s free. It’s happening Thursday, October 23rd from 11:30am to 1pm in Colchester, VT. Check out our Vermont Edition Fall Gardening Show Live event here.
Until next time I’ll be seeing you, in the garden.

Species Tulips Video

One of my favorite spring flowering bulbs are the species or wildflower tulips. These are tulip varieties that are heirlooms and are close to the original ones that grow in the wilds of Turkey and other countries in that region where tulips came from. They’re beautiful, unusual, low growing and most importantly, hardy and tough. They come back every year and even can spread over time. To get inspired, check out my Species Tulip Video and my Podcast and Article.

Planting Bulbs in a Pot Video

Many gardeners don’t have the yard or room to plant spring flowering bulbs. But that doesn’t have to stop them from having some bulbs come spring. Tulips, daffodils, crocus and many other bulbs grow well in a pot. I talk about planting and forcing these bulbs into bloom for a flower show from late winter until spring, depending on your preference. Check out my video and article.

Protecting Bulbs from Rodents Video

There’s nothing worse than spending money and time to plant some spring flowering bulbs, only to find that rodents, such as mice, voles, chipmunks and squirrels, have eaten them. I feel your pain. There are ways to deter these animal pests in your bulb bed and some of the controls happen now. Check out my Protecting Bulbs from Rodents video and article.
