Fall Gardening Chores: Webinars, Podcasts and Stories

The calendar may have turned to September, but our warm days continue. I returned from my Gardens of Scotland tour only to find the vegetables and flowers still going strong and needing some water. Luckily my wife, Wendy, was home to keep the gardens growing. But fall is right around the corner so I thought to help us get ready for winter I’d offer a webinar and some videos and article about fall gardening. I highlight my webinar. Fall Gardening Chores, to help you stay on top of your gardening tasks as fall rolls in.

I also included my article on ornamental grasses. You’ll noticed these grasses are coming into their own and I saw some great examples of them in Scotland. I know I don’t talk a lot about lawns, but I included my Fall Lawn Care video in this newsletter. In many areas, fall is the best time to care for your lawn and I give you details on how to do it in this newsletter. Finally, the vegetable garden should still be producing food well into the fall. I talk about how to insure you’ll get those warm climate loving veggies to mature before frost in my Pinching Vegetables Video.
So, keep on top of your fall gardening chores and you’ll be enjoying the fruits of your labor for months this autumn and next spring.
Until next time I’ll be seeing you, in the garden.

Ornamental Grasses Podcast and Article

On my recent Garden Tour of Scotland we visited some amazing gardens. The stars in many of these gardens were the ornamental grasses. These tough, easy to grow grasses are often flowering and setting seed in autumn, so the show is particularly beautiful right now. The other good thing about ornamental grasses is the seed heads will last all winter giving your garden an attractive appeal, and some motion, in winter. In this article I talk about the best ornamental grasses to grow, emphasizing the clumping types so they don’t take over and cautioning about self sowing types such as Northern oat grass that can become weedy. Check out the article here.

We’ve had an abundant harvest of vegetables from our garden this year, and the produce keeps coming into fall. For cool weather loving veggies such as root crops, kale and cabbage, they will continue to thrive with the cool, fall weather. But for heat lovers, such as tomatoes, eggplants and melons, they may need some help to mature in time. Check out my Pinching Veggies video to find out how to insure you get the most veggies from your garden this fall.
